ABOUT OUR SQUADRON

"The future of any nation is in the hands of its youth"

Our squadron is a small Air Cadet squadron located in Chirk, North Wales. We are part of one of the largest youth organisations in the UK, the Air Training Corps.

As a Cadet on our Squadron, there are many fantastic opportunities to take advantage of. Some of the activities we get up to include: flying & gliding, shooting, adventure training, BTEC awards, Duke of Edinburgh awards and many many more...

One of the main aims of our Squadron is to to 'learn through fun', the idea being that after an activity, a Cadet will have had a lot of fun without realising the amount of information they have just learnt. We not only provide amazing opportunities to all, but also teach skills useful in all aspects of both service and civilian life.

OUR HISTORY

We began our life as a 'Detached Flight' of 2279 (Wrexham) Squadron however after gaining a substantial number of Cadets we became a Squadron in our own community for our own community and no longer became attached to Wrexham.

The 'new' buildings were opened in 1986 by Lord Trevor of Chirk, it was during this time that the then Detached Flight had enough Cadets to form a Squadron in its own right, hence the formation of 856 (Chirk) Squadron ATC.

Due to the popularity of the Squadron, a further Detached Flight to Chirk was opened near Ruabon, known as 856 Detached Flight (Berwyn). But again, due to the success of the Air Cadets, the Detached flight had enough numbers to form its own Squadron to what is now known as 1251 (Berwyn) Squadron ATC.
